Rod Rutherford

Biography

Position: Quarterbacks

Rod Rutherford comes to FBU as a QB Coach with the highest level of experience.

He attended Perry Traditional Academy in Pittsburgh, PA where he was named athlete of the year in 1998 & 1999. Rutherfod was heavily recruited, holding Dvision 1 offers from multiple schools: Pittsburgh, Penn State, Miami (FL), Michigan State, IU and Syracuse.

Rutherford elected to stay home and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He led the Panthers to consecutive winning seasons in 2002 & 2003, and was named All-Big East both years. He finished his college career with 6,725 passing yards and 60 TD's.

Despite being ranked as the 12th best QB prospect in the 2004 NFL Draft, Rutherford went undrafted. He was immediately singed by the Carolina Panthers. After 1 year with Carolina, Rutherford again returned home where he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a member of the Super Bowl XL Championship Team. He also spent time playing time professionally in NFL Europe and the AFL.

During his time in the AFL, Rutherford began coaching at the college level. He has had stops at the University of Pittsburgh, Indiana (PA) and Saint Vincent College.
