Jurkovec attended Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.[2] He took over at QB at Pine-Richland High School after Ben DiNucci played his senior season and then graduated in 2015. During his high school career, he had 11,144 total yards, 8,202 passing yards and 71 touchdown passes.
As a senior, he played in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and was the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Year.
Jurkovec committed to the University of Notre Dame to play college football.

Jurkovec played in one game his freshman season at Notre Dame in 2018 and took a redshirt. As a redshirt freshman in 2019, he played in six games as a backup to Ian Book, and completed 12 of 16 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. After the season, Jurkovec transferred to Boston College.

In his first season there, he was named the starting quarterback.
Named starter in all 10 games he played in at quarterback … 2,558 passing yards over his first 10 starts were the most by any BC quarterback in school history … first player in BC history to total four, 300-yard passing games in his first five career starts at quarterback and the first BC quarterback with four or more 300-yard games in a season since Matt Ryan (2007) … 26th nationally with 255.8 passing yards per game … ended the season completing 61 percent of his passes and throwing 18 touchdown passes (30th nationally)
