Pepper Johnson

Biography

Position: Linebackers

Pepper Johnson joins the Football University Coaching Staff with an unbelievable playing & coaching background.

After graduating from Detroit Mackenzie High School, Johnson went on to attend Ohio State University. At Ohio State, Johnson lettered all four years, leading the team in tackles in 1984 & 1985. He earned All-American Honors in 1985 and ended his college career with 379 tackles, 5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and was inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame in 2001.

After college, Pepper was drafted in the 2nd Round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Johnson went on to have a 13-year NFL Career, playing with the Giants, Browns, Lions and Jets. Throughout his career, he accumulated 983 Tackles, 25.5 Sacks, 14 Interceptions and 2 Touchdowns. He was a 1st-Team All-Pro in 1990, 2x Pro Bowler and 2X Super Bowl Champion.

When his playing career ended, Johnson went into coaching side of things. He has spent the last 24 years as a coach, including 16 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Bills and Jets. During his time as an NFL Coach, he won an additional 3 Super Bowls, giving him 5 Super Bowl Championships overall as a coach & player.
