Coach Govan is just finished his first season as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator for the Whittier College Poets.
Lucas Govan started as an Offensive Graduate Assistant during the 2017 season following his senior year at Humboldt State. The following year, he was promoted to serve as the Offensive Line Coach for the 2018 season where the Lumberjacks averaged 3.7 yards per carry and 130.2 rushing yards per game. During 2018, he coached two All-Conference players, as well as players who transferred schools following the shut down of Humboldt State Football (one player Division-I FBS, three players Division-II).
After parting from Humboldt State, he coached at McKinleyville High School serving as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, and Offensive Line / Tight Ends Coach for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams during the 2019 season.
Govan then accepted the position as Quarterbacks Coach at Feather River College where he coached for the 2021 Spring season. During the season, Feather River Quarterbacks compiled a league-high 61.3% completion rate and a 153.9% efficiency rating. Govan also coached the Special Teams Units where they led the conference in Punt Return Average, Kick Return Average, and PAT Percentage.
A native of Monterey County, Govan played high school football at Carmel High and was a Salinas Californian All-County selection, Monterey County Herald All-County Selection, MaxPreps All-State Division III, and received All-State Division IV Cal-Hi Sports recognition throughout his high school career. He continued his football career at Humboldt State University where he was a two-time unanimous All-GNAC First Team selection for the Lumberjacks. Govan also received All-Super Region 3 and Don Hansen Honorable Mention All-American honors following his junior campaign. In 2016, Govan was a Preseason All-American selection and Instantscouting.com First Team All-American.
In addition to coaching football, Govan received his M.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Adapted Physical Education in 2019. He enjoys working with and alongside people with both physical and mental disabilities in an active setting, and promoting inclusive recreational activities.
