Biography
Position: Quarterbacks
FBU Quarterbacks Coach Chris Miller brings a career resume that features playing and coaching success at each level.
Miller attended the University of Oregon, where he was a two-time first-team All-Pac 10 quarterback. When he left Oregon, he held 13 school records. Miller was the first-round pick (13 overall) for the Atlanta Falcons in 1987, where he spent the majority of his 10-year career. He led the NFL with the lowest interception percentage in 1989. His best year came in 1991, where he threw for over 3000 yards and 26 touchdowns, a season that ended in a trip to the Pro Bowl. He also made stops in St. Louis and Denver. While with the Rams at the tail end of his career Miller threw for a combined 34 touchdowns in two seasons, and had a 7-6 record in the 13 games he started in 1995. He finished his NFL career with 19,320 career passing yards and 123 passing touchdowns. His 14,066 passing yards and 87 passing touchdowns both rank third in Falcons' franchise history.
After his playing days he turned his attention to the high school level from 2002-06, turning South Eugene High into a local powerhouse. South Eugene had 11 consecutive losing seasons before Miller came on board. He led them to four straight playoff appearances in his final four seasons there, including a state quarterfinals appearance in '06, and had an overall record of 31-21. In 2003, he was named the Oregon Coach of the Year. In 2005, Miller was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame for having made a significant contribution to sports in the state. For the past four seasons he has been the head coach at West Linn High School. In 2016, Miller led West Linn to a 62-7 State Championship victory which was the largest margin of victory for a state champion in the state of Oregon.
Miller was the Arizona Cardinals’ QB Coach from 2009-11, where worked with former MVP Kurt Warner and also coached fellow FBU QB coach Rich Bartel. In December of 2012, Miller announced he would return to the head coaching position at South Eugene High. The Axemen of South Eugene have not reached the state playoffs since he left and have won only two games - including one by forfeit - in the past three years, including having gone 0-12 in 2012.
