No event is bigger than Football University Top Gun

Top Gun athletes are given the unique opportunity to practice the techniques and skills they have been taught against athletes who are as big, as strong, as fast, and as gifted as they are.

They also are blessed with the chance to impress the best group of NFL faculty ever assembled at one camp. Top Gun will feature approximately 70 members of the coaching staff that have more than 700 years of combined NFL coaching and playing experience! These coaches share their immense knowledge of the game to the athletes through on-field drills as well as detailed classroom film breakdowns.Every year at Top Gun, several rising seniors are picked to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

High School Showcase will feature guest speakers

speaker-01Lenny Cooke

Lenny Cooke is a former high school and professional basketball player. He was a highly regarded basketball player in high school and was considered one of the top recruits in the country, along with Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony. At the end of the 2002-2003 school year, Cooke had various options for college basketball including: North Carolina, Seton Hall, St. Johns, and Ohio State. Cooke instead chose to bypass college and declare himself for the 2002 NBA draft. To his surprise, all 29 NBA teams passed on him in the first two rounds. The closest Cooke ever came to play in the NBA was when he was invited by the Boston Celtics to play in their summer league in 2003. In 2003-2004 he played in the Philippine Basketball Association, and in 2006-07 he ended his career in the CBA after he blew out his Achilles tendon.

speaker-02Dr. Joe Ross

Dr. Ross (Retired, US Army) is the President of HigherEchelon, Inc., a service disabled veteran owned small business. Joe’s background includes diverse leadership assignments, years of performance study, and the development of organizational effectiveness programs, culminating in the Resilient and Adaptable Leader (RAL) concept. With the RAL Team, Joe helps deliver the RAL program to Fortune 100 companies, Universities, and professional sports teams, seeking to improve team results, leader effectiveness, and overall organizational performance. In addition, Joe has consulted with NFL and MLB teams about state of the art technology to enhance coaching and player learning.

While still in the Army, Dr. Ross served as the director of the Military Enhancement Program at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. In that position, he led a staff of 50 professionals who delivered training for optimizing performance in athletics, academics, and military endeavors to cadets, soldiers, and athletes both on and off the West Point campus. Most notably, Dr. Ross spearheaded the proposal, development, and execution of an Army-wide lifelong peak performance program by setting up centers at major Army installations. Now called Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2), this program is designed to build resilience and enhance performance of Soldiers, their Families, and Army Civilians.

In 2009 after retiring from the military, Dr. Ross joined the Army Football coaching staff as the Special Teams and Fullback Coach, where he helped lead Army Football to the 2010 Independence Bowl victory.

speaker-03Shaun Marq Anderson

Shaun Marq Anderson is a P.A.S.E, a Professor, Author Speaker and Entrepreneur. He grew up in extreme poverty in Pine Bluff, Arkansas but he had a passion to succeed and to leave a lasting legacy for his family. As an undergraduate student, he worked as a full-time janitor for two and a half years while being a full-time student. However, the work ethic and organizational skills that were learned during this experience helped him develop a V.Y.Z.I.O.N. that was sure to take him from slump to success! He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Following a successful stint working in broadcast production, he earned his master’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Arkansas State University. He is now currently pursuing a PhD in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Organizational/Interpersonal Communication from West Virginia University. His scholastic distinction is matched only by his love for public speaking. He considers his achievements to be the result of hardwork, determination, and a knack to never give up. Moreover he strives to instill these same values into the individuals he comes in contact with.

speaker-04 Laymon Hicks

Laymon Hicks is a motivational speaker who shares his own path from troubled adolescent to graduating high school with a 4.0 grade point average to teach youth that they are in control of their own destiny. Sharing his troubled teen years, surrounded by drama, battling feelings of abandonment, lured by peer pressure into becoming a bully to his ultimate expulsion from the National Honor Society and descent into depression, Laymon puts it all on the table. He relays that the real motivation comes from within. From wanting more. From needing to do better. From believing you deserve better. Laymon attended Florida State University, attaining both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, was Student Body President, has authored four inspirational books for students, has appeared as an on-air motivational expert for the #1 Nationally Syndicated Talk Show, Maury, offered keynote addresses and workshops at more than 100 schools and student conferences for over 50,000 young people. But he doesn’t soft soap the struggle. It’s hard, with lots of setbacks along the way. But his message remains clear. Compelling. “Failure is not fatal!” Laymon promises, if you had the power to try – you have the power to try again! And again! You’ve got to be positive.
