Derrick Johnson is a native of Southern California;  after attending Cerritos Community College in Norwalk, California Coach Johnson received a Division IA scholarship to Kent State University (OH) After graduating from Kent State University in 1994 Johnson relocated to Richmond, Va and began his coaching career.  In 1999 Coach Johnson received his Masters Degree in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (Special Education)  to enhance his marketability as a coach and teacher.  In 2006 Coach Johnson landed his first Head Football coaching career at Richmond Heights High School (Oh).  Between 2010-2015 Coach Johnson pursued a brief stint as administrator at Cleveland Heights High School (Oh) and Head of Schools at a private day school in Richmond, Va.  Coach Johnson returned to coaching as the Head Football Coach at Matoaca High school in Chesterfield, Va (2015-2018) Johnson’s last Head Football Coaching assignment was at Hermitage High School in Henrico, Va.
