Stacey Bailey

Biography

Position: Wide Receivers

FBU wide receivers coach Stacey Bailey played his college football at San Jose State University, where he played for coach Jack Elway (father of retired Denver Broncos QB, John Elway). Bailey was an All-Conference selection in 1980, and added All-American and All-Conference honors in 1981. He was selected to play in the 1982 Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game. He ranked 2nd in career receiving yards (2,223 on 123 catches) in program history at the time he graduated from San Jose State, and finished his college career with 18.9 yards per catch, third in all-time in that category in the Mountain West Conference.

Coach Bailey was selected in the 3rd round of the 1982 NFL draft, 63rd overall, by the Atlanta Falcons. He finished his career with 206 receptions for 3,422 yards (16.6 avg.) and 18 touchdowns. He had his best years in 1983 and '84. In 1983 he caught 55 passes for 881 yards and six touchdowns. In 1984 he Caught 67 passes for 1,138 yards and six scores.

Bailey was not only known for his quickness and speed (4.3 forty), but was considered one of the best route runners in the league.

Now retired from the NFL, he spends much of his time training and mentoring wide receivers on the high school and college level.
