DeChon Burns

Biography

Position: Defensive Linemen, Linebackers

DeChon Burns has coached defensive lines at all levels, most recently with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL. Before landing in Sacramento, Burns was the defensive line coach for the University of Texas-El Paso having served as the interim head coach at Texas Southern, where he had also been the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

Burns spent time coaching with Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators. Spurrier brought Burns on to the Washington Redskins when he took over as head coach. Burns also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant linebackers coach.

Burns has experience at the high school level, having served as the coach at Bishop Arnat and Beverly Hills High Schools. At the University of Southern California he reached the 1989 Rose Bowl, but suffered a neck injury that ended his football career. He served as an assistant to the USC coaching staff for the 1990-92 seasons then shifted his attention to baseball and played center field for USC in 1992.
