Cornell Gowdy was a standout defensive player for the Morgan State Bears from 1982 until the 1984 season. During his time with the Bears, Gowdy played linebacker, safety, and cornerback.

Gowdy began a successful scouting career in 1996 working for National Football Scouting. From 1997 until 2003 Gowdy served as an area scout for the New Orleans Saints. After his time with the Saints, Gowdy joined the Kansas City Chiefs staff as an area scout from 2003-2009.
