Akili Smith was a standout quarterback in his senior season at the University of Oregon, throwing 30 touchdown passes in only 11 starts.

Smith was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals third overall in 1999. He spent four seasons with the Bengals before playing with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. After his playing career, Smith returned to St. Augustine High School in his hometown to coach quarterbacks.
